The Royal Navy Host Catering Competition for Chelmsford College Learners
Chelmsford College catering learners were fortunate enough to have a very special visit from the Royal Navy on the 10th March. Making a change from their usual classes, two Royal Navy members took over the lesson to host a mini competition, providing them with valuable professional experience.

After starting the class with a warm introduction, the learners were then tasked to group up, choose ingredients and then prepare and serve two dishes of their choice. They had a range of fresh food to choose from as the Royal Navy kindly brought along a wide variety of ingredients with them.
Once the competition had commenced, the learners were fully focused on deciding dishes and getting to work on them. The competition proved successful with learners experiencing the unpredictable fast-paced environment that often happens within the catering industry. Showing their professionalism and capability, the class completed the challenge within the time limit and to a high standard.
Then came the judging and whilst the Navy commended the whole class for their effort and expertise, Freya, Ben and Phoenix were announced as the Level 1 winners! Taking the award for Level 2 were Aran, Kane, Daniel and Grantas who also created two very tasty dishes.
Chelmsford College would like to thank the Royal Navy for visiting and teaching the learners more about catering within the Armed Forces. A special thanks is also owed to the catering team who work hard to provide these wonderful opportunities.
