Freshers Week Brings a Buzz to Chelmsford College

Chelmsford College kicked off the 2026/27 academic year with a week of activities, freebies and support for new and returning learners as part of Freshers Week. Taking place from the 14th-18th September across both the Moulsham Street and Princes Road campuses, Freshers Week gave learners the opportunity to have fun, meet new people and explore a range of stalls manned by external companies.

Visitors ranged from Virgin Active and Barnardos to Boba Fresh and the Museum of Chelmsford, alongside a variety of support services. Their stalls gave learners the chance to speak to different organisations and find out more about the opportunities and support available to them, while creating a lively atmosphere across both campuses.

There were plenty of freebies on offer too. The week began with free ice cream supplied by JB ICES on Monday, followed by free pizza at lunchtimes throughout the rest of the week. Coca Cola Zero also proved popular with learners, while John Lewis kindly provided beauty samples.

A particular highlight of the week included inflatables being set up on the College’s back fields, with learners making the most of them despite the uncertain weather.

Rebecca Leech, Director of Learner Experience and Essential Skills, praised the week saying "We were excited to welcome our stakeholders in, supporting learners during Freshers Week and National Inclusion Week 2026. It’s a great way to break up the learning day, during breaks and lunch times, exploring services and external support as well as fabulous freebies from amazing vendors. There has been a real buzz around the College as we bring life to learning and provide support for all."

Chelmsford College would like to thank all of the organisations that attended and helped make Freshers Week a success, with a special thanks to the Learner Experience and Enrichment Team for organising the week.
