Chelmsford College Take Another Successful Step in Sustainability Journey with Planet Earth Games Success

The annual Planet Earth Games for Further Education competition, held in partnership between Planet Earth Games Trust and Association of Colleges Sport, brings together staff and students nationwide to represent their college by taking part in a series of challenges that support sustainability, active wellbeing and conservation.

Colleges are empowered to create their own youth-led challenges - all themed under a UN Sustainable Development Goal – and they responded by creating 200 challenges including a Sustainable Sports Day, Wellbeing Walks, Open water swimming, Hug a tree, Plogging, the Seven day salad challenge and much more. There were over 10,000 individual actions across the programme with positive feedback from college staff and students alike, including:

"Participating in Planet Earth Games inspired me to cycle to college regularly, reducing my carbon footprint and improving my fitness"

"We have fostered a greater sense of sustainability, physical activity and environmental mindfulness. Seeing students take an active role in the challenges has been incredibly rewarding"

"One of the most exciting additions to this year’s activity calendar was our sustainable sports day, held at the main campus and attended by students from all sites."

The competition took place from January through to Earth Day (22 April) with staff and students taking part in challenges and scoring points for their college on the live leaderboards at planetearthgames.org

Chelmsford College were overjoyed to be crowned second place, leading Tier 1 college (the smallest tier of AoC members colleges). This is another remarkable step in the College’s sustainability journey and showcases their dedication to pioneering for a greener future.

Chris Broadbent, Founder, Planet Earth Games said:

"This is the fourth year of Planet Earth Games' Further Education competition with AoC Sport and it just gets better every year. We were grateful for the support of the Sport England Movement Fund which helped us resource the programme. As ever, it was a pleasure working with AoC Sport and every member college on this rewarding and impactful programme in the Further Education space."
