Making a Difference Through Social Action Day at Chelmsford College
Wednesday 18th March marked a very special Social Action Day for Chelmsford College. Staff and learners alike spent the day raising money for charity and giving back to the community through a wide range of activities.

Despite what has been a typically grey start to the year, the sun made a welcome appearance, starting the day off to a great start. The various subject areas and different staff teams successfully came up with a variety of ways to support social action, helping make a real difference.
Both campuses were full of activity from the morning onwards helping bring the College together for a great cause. Standout examples include the beauty department who fundraised for Haven House Children’s Hospice by offering a range of beauty treatments and the IT department who raised over £150 for Great Ormand Street Hospital by running a car wash for staff and learner cars on the premises. Other departments, including INSPIRE and Animation, held print and bake sales, showcasing their creative and baking skills while raising money.
Aside from fundraising, learners completed social action in other forms by tidying up the onsite sustainable fashion shop, card making and handing them out, clearing the College’s Secret Garden and much more. The day really showed the power and importance of social action and the many ways learners can make a positive impact.
For those who decided to go offsite, the social action continued into the wider community! Extended Learning learners visited St John’s Church to garden and litter pick. St John’s were incredibly grateful thanking the learners for their hard work. The learners enjoyed it so much, they plan to visit and help more often. Meanwhile, the HR Team went to the Wilderness Foundation UK at Mann Wood. They had a walk around some of the woods, learnt about the work they do relating to education, eco-therapy and research they are undertaking. Whilst they were there, they saw a group therapy session, hares, red kites, buzzards, partridges and pheasants, and then got stuck into cleaning and wood staining two bio-diverse public toilet facilities. This important work will help them get the facilities open much sooner for the public.
Learners were encouraged to share their success by posting on socials using #ChelmsfordSocialAction with prizes awarded by Unloc for standout contributions.
Overall, the day was a great success and Chelmsford College was delighted to see the impact of the whole College coming together for such a great cause.
