Chelmsford College Hosts UK’s Largest School Culinary Competition in Local Finals of Springboard FutureChef Competition
On Wednesday 14th January, Chelmsford College were delighted to welcome students from King John School, Billericay School and St Joseph’s College to its modern kitchen facilities based at its Princes Road campus. Springboard FutureChef is a national competition for young people aged 12-16 in which they develop culinary skills and increase their understanding of food and nutrition through preparing meals. The students visiting were local finalists of the competition hoping to impress judges and make it to the later regional finals and finally to the national UK final.

Using Chelmsford College’s state-of-the-art cooking facilities which it’s catering courses usually use, the school students were well equipped to prepare their tasty dishes which were then put before three professional chefs for judging. The judges had the difficult task of choosing winners based off different factors including presentation and taste.
In an inspiring award ceremony, also held at Chelmsford College’s Princes Road campus, the judges praised the venue, the student’s talent and efficiency and of course, the dishes that were carefully prepared for them! In what was a tough decision, the judges awarded Chloe and Harrison as their two winners despite congratulating all remaining students for their talent and effort too.
Chelmsford College was delighted to be of support to this wonderful competition again and wishes all regional finalists the best of luck in the next stage. The hard work and dedication of College staff including Cheryl Lennon ensured the success of this event and allowed the future generation of chefs to nurture their skills.
