The BBC Goes Live on Air With Chelmsford College Learners

With the government currently discussing a potential ban on social media for under-16s in the UK, BBC Essex was keen to hear directly from young people affected by the proposal. BBC Essex journalist, Elliot Deady, visited Chelmsford College to speak with learners about their views on the topic on the 20th January 2025.

The BBC Goes Live on Air With Chelmsford College Learners

Chelmsford College learners Dylan, Naomi, Antony, Abi and Mia shared their opinions live on air, offering a range of perspectives to Elliot and the BBC Essex audience. Views varied from strong support for a ban, to clear opposition, with others acknowledging both positives and negatives of social media use.

During the discussion, learners discussed exposure to violent content online, alongside the positive and supportive content that many young people benefit from through social media platforms. Their participation provided valuable and helped inform a topic currently making national headlines.

Chelmsford College would like to congratulate the learners for representing the College so confidently and thank BBC Essex for visiting and giving learners the opportunity to have their voices heard.
