Skills Week Prepares Chelmsford College Learners for Future Competitions!

Chelmsford College hosted its inaugural Skills Week from the 24th-28th November and what a success it was! The college-wide celebration focused on helping learners develop and display their skills through competitions and mini challenges. The aim was to help make competition a natural and exciting part of teaching and learning, while building learners’ confidence and skills for their next steps.

The enrichment team worked hard to encourage every department to run activities that link directly to what learners are studying. The most significant aspect of Skills Week is that learners who stood out have been chosen to take part in the Essex Inter-College Skills Competition in January. If they again impress there, they can go on to represent Chelmsford College at WorldSkills UK, a big national competition!

Highlights of the week included college-wide fitness challenges that took place everyday across both campuses, hair and beauty learners creating Halloween themed styled looks, photography learners creating festive light drawings which they then turned into GIFs and catering learners who undertook a WorldSkills UK trial brief!

Overall, Skills Week reflected the College’s Going for Gold strategy with Chelmsford College very happy with the success of the week. Learners were encouraged to try new things, whilst reflecting on their progress helping them discover their strengths. Staff and learners now look forward to the upcoming Essex Inter-College Skills Competition in January and wish all those who are partaking the best of luck.
