Paving the Way to Inclusive Employment

On the 17th of October 2024, professionals from all around joined Chelmsford College staff members to learn more about what the College is doing to promote inclusive employment.

Having received funding from Innovate UK, Chelmsford College has an initiative focused on helping the most vulnerable, including returning citizens, veterans and those with SEND, enter the workforce. Holding this event and welcoming various stakeholders allowed the College the chance to spread the word and hopefully encourage others to follow suit and help out with this challenge.

Paving the Way to Inclusive Employment

Featuring various presentations, networking and a roundtable discussion, the event proved fruitful and thought-provoking for all. Debbie Garroway, the Deputy Principal – Curriculum & Quality, welcomed guests with an introduction. This was followed by Andy Vaccari, the Inclusive Employment Project Manager, giving a further insight into the project and its aims. Representatives from HMP Chelmsford and Bounce Back also kindly gave talks on how they’ve been working with the College to support the employment of returning citizens too.

The conversations were productive with many discussing solutions through an inclusive by design approach. Overall, the event was a success, and the College looks forward to making more progress with this meaningful initiative.

Andy Vaccari expressed his thanks by saying "each and every attendee provided insightful thoughts and ideas around the challenges we face collectively. The guest speakers Karen Baker and Gemma Brockman were terrific and shared great success stories around rehabilitation of returning citizens. By working together, we will change many lives."
