Havens Hospices Celebrates the Generous Work of Chelmsford College Learner
Alice, one of Chelmsford College’s learners, has been praised for her hard work in supporting Havens Hospices at an afternoon tea hosted at their Prittlewell headquarters on the 5th June. Currently enrolled on the Employment Pathway within the College’s Foundation Provision department, Alice was keen to gain practical skills alongside her course, so she has been voluntarily undertaking work experience with the charity shop in Great Baddow for six months now.
Alice has shown great commitment to her work experience by willingly participating in a range of tasks each week with the support of her College Job Coach, Vicki Baker. These tasks include stock rotation and preparing clothes and other items for sale in the shop, including pricing, labelling and sorting through donated items. By completing these tasks, Alice is actively helping towards a great cause, which is why Havens Hospices proudly invited both Alice and Vicki to attend their volunteer event.
Along with enjoying the delicious afternoon tea, this event also gave Alice the opportunity to meet other volunteers and celebrate their contributions together. The charity's CEO gave Alice a warm welcome and personally thanked her for all the help she has given the Great Baddow store over the last six months.
Despite the academic year coming to an end, Alice has decided to continue volunteering over the summer break and is excited to continue making a difference for Havens Hospices. With the skills she has gained from both her charitable work experience and Foundation Provision programme, Alice will be returning to Chelmsford College in September on a Supported Internship programme, showing that hard work pays off.
Vicki, Alice’s job coach, expressed her pride by stating, "Alice has worked incredibly hard in her volunteer position. She has gained confidence, collaborated well with her team, and gained valuable work skills. It was an honour for us to be invited to the volunteer event, and it was a wonderful way to end the year and celebrate her achievements during her work experience. It's important for learners to understand the positive impact of volunteering and to be recognised for their hard work and commitment."
