Opportunities Aplenty at Chelmsford Skills Fest

Chelmsford College was thrilled to join forces with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) for the annual Chelmsford Skills Fest, held on the 26th June 2025 at ARU’s Writtle campus. The festival offered an exciting opportunity for year 8 students from 10 local secondary schools to explore the endless possibilities of careers available to them beyond school. As well as Chelmsford College proudly showcasing its variety of options, numerous employers also came together to speak to the eager students.

Opportunities Aplenty at Chelmsford Skills Fest

The festival was made up of various zones and tents dedicated to a range of industries and future paths, ensuring there was something for every student. Chelmsford College made a strong presence across several of these zones, engaging students with hands-on activities and insightful guidance.

In the Step-up Space, representatives from the College’s Health and Social Care, Childcare, and Sports departments were on hand to inspire the next generation. Students were invited to test their fitness, receive nutrition advice, try on a baby bump suit, and interact with electronic babies; bringing practical learning to life in a memorable way. Other areas included the Inspiration Zone which was a science-led zone home to engaging activities. Chelmsford College’s Construction department were based here and enjoyed teaching the festival goers how to assemble a wooden crane and stencil designs for them to take home. In addition to this was the Motivation Zone which brought out the creative side of the festival. The College showcased its Hair and Beauty, Catering, and Travel and Tourism departments, allowing students to enjoy face painting and hair glitter sessions, tasty treats from a chocolate fountain, and even virtual environments using advanced technology.

Overall, the day was a great success and provided the local year 8’s with a thorough insight into the future opportunities available to them. Chelmsford College, as always, was proud to support this important initiative and remains committed to helping young learners discover their passions, build skills, and realise their full potential.
