Chelmsford College Enjoy Successful Night at the Jack Petchey Awards
Chelmsford College was delighted to be back at the annual Jack Petchey Awards to celebrate its inspiring learners who achieved an award. The Jack Petchey Foundation recognises thousands of young people across London and Essex each year for their outstanding efforts. These celebrations shine a spotlight on youth talent, feature live performances and welcome VIPs to honour the achievements of some truly remarkable people. This year, Chelmsford College joined other local Chelmsford and Maldon schools and clubs at the Chelmsford Civic Theatre on the 8th July for the memorable ceremony.
Admirably, 18 Chelmsford College learners were Jack Petchey Award winners this year, with staff, families and peers attending the event for support. With the competition extremely fierce this year, these learners did amazingly well to be recognised for their hard work, talent and determination. Award winners have to be nominated and then go through a collaborative process to select the finalists. Each award attracts a grant of £300 and the award winner decides how that money should be spent in their school, club or organisation. This year's award winners were in the presence of Councillor Jannetta Sosin - Mayor of Chelmsford and Councillor John Driver - Maldon Town Mayor.
The event proved both moving and entertaining, with performances from local majorettes keeping the audience engaged and Chelmsford College’s very own Communication Support Worker, Jane Clark, in attendance on the stage. As one of the College’s award winners is deaf, Jane was there to translate the night into British Sign Language, which added an extra emotionally resonant layer to the night that it doesn’t always have. Additionally, with Sir Jack Petchey CBE’s recent passing in June of 2024, the event also served as a celebration of his life and legacy. Chelmsford College looks forward to hopefully returning again next year to celebrate more success!
