Chelmsford College commended in national AoC Beacon Awards
Chelmsford College has been named a Commended College in the 2026/27 AoC Beacon Awards, recognised in The ION Award for Re-Engaging Young People in Education and Employment.
The Beacon Awards, run by the Association of Colleges Charitable Trust, celebrate the best practice in further education across the country. Every application is reviewed by independent assessors, and commended status means the college’s work has met the AoC Beacon Standard.
The recognition is for INSPIRE, the college’s approach to helping young people who have stepped away from education find their way back. As the number of young people not in education, employment or training continues to rise, INSPIRE offers eight different routes back into learning and work, from supported internships and accessible apprenticeships to the RESTART programmes, which help young people reconnect, reset and rebuild their confidence.
The young people INSPIRE supports have faced a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, special educational needs, exclusion from school or time out of education altogether. The aim is simple: to unlock their potential and give every young person a pathway to success.
Phil Clark, Vice Principal Curriculum, said: "Achieving AoC Beacon Standard and Commended Status is a fantastic achievement for Chelmsford College and a testament to the life-changing work taking place across our college community. This recognition celebrates the dedication of our staff, the resilience of our learners and the strength of our stakeholder partnerships, all of which enable us to make a real difference to the lives of young people across Essex."
The goal goes beyond qualifications. The college wants every learner to leave as a confident, work-ready young person, ready to contribute to their local community.
Beacon Award finalists will be announced on Tuesday 10 November at the AoC Annual Conference.
Congratulations to all the other commended colleges in this year’s #AoCBeacons.
