INSPIRE Event Connects Learners With Opportunities Across the Community

On Wednesday 21 October, Chelmsford College held its annual INSPIRE event in the Dovedale Sports Hall at our Moulsham Street Campus. Local organisations, charities and support services came together to meet learners from INSPIRE, our department for learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The event gives learners the chance to go around and meet exhibitors, find out about activities they can do in the local community and explore things they can get involved in now and move on to in the future. Exhibitors included Wilderness Foundation UK, Essex Youth Service, Essex County Council, City of Chelmsford Mencap, ECL, Hamelin, Hadleigh Training Centre, Grapevine Essex, ACE Music Therapy, Zinc Education and Careers Advice.

Sarah-Jane Easdown, CEIAG Manager, (Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) said: "This is our third year now, and I think it’s really successful. They really enjoy it. They gather lots of information, parents come along, and it’s a really good start for them planning their future progression."

Exhibitors were just as positive. David Wilkinson from Wilderness Foundation UK said: "It’s been really busy today, so I’ve really enjoyed speaking to students and staff members. A lot of people hadn’t heard of us, or any of the other brilliant organisations that we’ve got here, so I think it’s been really inspiring to speak to lots of people, hear their stories and tell them a little bit about how we can potentially help them if they’re in need. I came last year. It’s bigger and better than ever this year.” Teah Knights from Essex Youth Service added: "It’s been brilliant. It’s been really fun. I had a chat with lots of different young people.”

Thank you to every organisation who joined us. We look forward to welcoming you back next year.
