Courageous Chelmsford College Students Make Impact at the Mid Essex Stay Safe Conference

On the 24th April, a group of very brave and inspiring Chelmsford College students joined the Mid Essex Stay Safe Conference, making a significant impact on the topic of safety for the local community. Organised by Liz Kirby, the Safeguarding Lead at Chelmsford City Council, the event aimed to discuss safeguarding and staying safe and help spark positive change. The conference, held at Chelmsford Baptist Church, successfully included the local youth by inviting Chelmsford College students to actively participate.

The group of Chelmsford College students were first treated to lunch and then showed their courage by taking the mic to deliver a meaningful presentation. Covering a range of topical subjects, including the TV drama Adolescence, toxic masculinity and bus safety, particularly around Chelmsford Bus Station, the students used their initiative to drive change. The audience then partook in a Q&A session, which gave the opportunity to exchange ideas. Lastly, the students then gave the adults a quiz on teenage slang, which proved both humorous and thought-provoking.

Overall, the students did a brilliant job and should be very proud of themselves. Their support and motivation for one another stood out, with audience members even praising their behaviour and commenting on what a credit to the College they are. Laura Eastwood, Life Skills and Enrichment Manager at Chelmsford College, who selected the students to attend and went with them, expressed how "the students surpassed themselves, dressing smartly, getting up on stage, being brave enough to take the stage and answer difficult questions."

Chelmsford College is dedicated to safeguarding and is thrilled that students actively engage in promoting and implementing it within the community too.
