Chelmsford’s Budding Entrepreneurs Provided with Amazing Opportunity

Young budding entrepreneurs of Chelmsford have been gaining amazing learning opportunities thanks to Chelmsford College’s Professionals Week, running from the 24th-28th March 2025. The week saw a variety of guest speakers visit the college to speak with the creative industry, business and digital learners, offering guidance and inspiration for their next steps beyond college. The highlight of the week was on Wednesday, 26th March, when Chelmsford College hosted a Youth Business Event, part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Held at the College’s Moulsham Street campus, the event welcomed a variety of guest speakers and employers from the youth business sector to further guide these aspiring entrepreneurs.

The event ran smoothly, with classes timetabled to ensure all learners had the chance to watch the speeches. When not watching a speaker, other exhibitors manned stalls, allowing learners to move around and receive personalised advice from role models who have been through a similar journey themselves.

With the creative industry, business and digital learners particularly interested in setting up their own businesses or becoming freelancers offering their talent, this event felt fitting with a buzzing atmosphere felt throughout. A standout of the event was the exceptional standard of guest speakers who came to visit, including Chilsola, who is currently a contestant on BBC’s The Apprentice alongside Lord Alan Sugar! Opening up about her entrepreneurial journey to date, Chilsola inspired learners by discussing her motivations and struggles along the way. Further amazing speakers and exhibitors included HSBC Bank, who provided insight into what goes into setting up a business, including business accounts. Luke, from The Juice Bar, is an award-winning young entrepreneur, also shared how he created his dream business. Demonstrating that learners can start their entrepreneurial journeys today if they truly desire to, Earniversity, a virtual business school designed for young people aged 13-25, was also there. Additionally, Emy from Rebel Business School shared ideas to help students start making money doing what they love and how to find the right customers for their products.

Overall, Chelmsford College did an outstanding job in students with a rare opportunity to speak and learn from real-world professionals. The significance of the speakers' and exhibitors' relatability was a key takeaway, proving that if they succeed, the learners can achieve their goals, too!

Rebecca Leech, Head of the Creative Arts, Business, and Digital Industries department, exclaimed that the day was "absolutely inspiring” and expressed that the team “cannot thank our wonderful guests enough for their contributions in our Professionals Week and Youth Business Event supported by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund."
