Funded Skills Bootcamps in Essex for Employers & Employees

Developing your skills can help you take on new responsibilities, progress in your current role or explore a different career. For employers, investing in training can strengthen your team and help your business adapt to changing demands.

At Chelmsford College, our Skills Bootcamps offer focused training in Project Management and Clean Energy Air Source Heat Pump Installation. With funding available for eligible learners and employers, these programmes provide an accessible way to develop skills with a clear workplace purpose.

What Are Skills Bootcamps?

Skills Bootcamps are short training programmes designed around skills that employers need. They combine relevant knowledge with practical learning to help adults prepare for new opportunities or build on their existing experience.

They can support employees preparing for greater responsibility, self-employed people developing their services and employers addressing skills gaps within their workforce. The right course depends on your goals, experience and ability to attend the required sessions.

How Can Employees Benefit?

You do not always need to change jobs to move forward in your career. Developing a new skill can help you contribute more confidently in your current role and prepare for responsibilities you may not previously have felt ready to take on.

For example, project management training could help someone who already coordinates tasks learn how to plan work, manage risks and communicate more effectively with colleagues. For an experienced tradesperson, heat pump training could build on existing knowledge and support a move into renewable heating.

A recognised qualification can also show employers what you've learned. Although completing a Skills Bootcamp does not guarantee promotion or new work, it can strengthen the skills you bring to future opportunities.

How Can Employers Benefit?

Training existing employees lets you develop people who already understand your customers, processes and business priorities.

Project management skills can support clearer planning, better coordination and more consistent delivery. Renewable heating training can help a business build technical capability and prepare its workforce for different types of installation work.

Supporting development may also help staff see a future within your organisation. Before choosing a course, consider how the employee will use their learning afterwards, whether through additional responsibilities, a different role or an expanded service.

Which Skills Bootcamps Are Available?

Project Management Skills Bootcamp

Our Project Management Skills Bootcamp covers planning, scheduling, risk management, stakeholder communication and leadership.

The programme runs over eight weeks, with live online teaching two evenings a week. Learners must attend at least 80% of live sessions and take an online exam for the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.

It is designed for employees developing project responsibilities, employers strengthening their teams and self-employed people seeking skills to support new work or contracts.

Clean Energy Air Source Heat Pump Installation Skills Bootcamp

Our Clean Energy Air Source Heat Pump Installer Skills Bootcamp helps people develop existing trade skills for work in renewable heating.

Delivered at Chelmsford College one day a week over nine weeks, it covers water regulations, legionella awareness, unvented hot water safety, low-temperature heating and air source heat pump installation and maintenance.

This course requires relevant existing skills and qualifications. Please contact us to check whether your background meets the entry requirements before applying.

Who Is Eligible for Funding?

Funding is subject to eligibility and course-specific entry requirements. Applicants should check:

• The age requirement: Skills Bootcamps are aimed at adults aged 19 and over, with the applicable eligibility date confirmed for each intake.
• Their right to work in the UK.
• The residency and location requirements for their chosen programme.
• Any previous skills or qualifications required.
• Their availability to meet attendance and assessment requirements.

Our Project Management Skills Bootcamp specifically requires learners to live in Greater Essex and meet residency requirements. The Heat Pump Bootcamp also requires suitable existing trade qualifications. Our team will confirm the requirements for your chosen course and circumstances.

Are the Courses Fully Funded?

Eligible self-employed learners can receive fully funded training. Independent applicants, including unemployed adults and employed people applying separately from their employer, may also qualify for full funding, subject to the programme’s eligibility and suitability checks. Being employed does not automatically mean your employer must pay.

Where an employer enrols an existing employee, the employer contributes towards training:

• Fewer than 250 employees: a 10% contribution, with 90% funded.
• 250 or more employees: a 30% contribution, with 70% funded.

The contribution is paid by the employer. Speak to us before enrolling so we can confirm the funding route that applies.
