Green Skills
Clean Energy Air Source Heat Pump Installation Skills Bootcamp
Is this course for me?
This course is for experienced plumbing and heating professionals who want to develop the skills needed to work with air source heat pump systems and low-temperature heating. It is ideal if you are looking to upskill into the growing clean-energy sector, broaden the services you can offer or support your employer’s transition to low-carbon heating technologies.
Over nine weeks, you will build a package of industry-relevant LCL Awards qualifications covering water regulations, Legionella prevention and water treatment, unvented hot water systems, low-temperature heating and the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. Teaching combines essential technical knowledge with practical skills.
Study Overview
The Clean Energy Heat Pump Installation Skills Bootcamp is delivered one day per week over nine weeks and provides 70 guided learning hours across five LCL Awards qualifications.
You will develop knowledge and practical skills in water regulations, Legionella prevention and water treatment, unvented hot water systems and safety, low-temperature heating and hot water systems in dwellings and the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits).
The heat pump element covers heat pump technology and components, efficiency and system design principles, installation preparation, testing and commissioning, handover, servicing, maintenance and fault diagnosis. The qualification relates to the non-refrigerant circuits of air source heat pump systems and does not qualify learners to undertake regulated work on refrigerant circuits.
Progression and Employment Opportunities
Successful completion will provide a strong foundation for experienced plumbing and heating professionals seeking to move into or progress within the low-carbon and renewable heating sector. The Skills Bootcamp can support progression into roles involving the installation, commissioning and maintenance of air source heat pump and low-temperature heating systems, subject to employer requirements and any additional industry certification needed for the role.
The Level 3 Air Source Heat Pump qualification is designed to support competence for heat pump installation and maintenance and meets the requirements of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) MIS 3005 training standard. Students wishing to work on refrigerant circuits will need the relevant separate Refrigeration/F-Gas qualification.
Additional Qualifications Studied
