Clean Energy Jobs and Careers Fair Inspires Young People at Chelmsford College

With Earth Day celebrated globally on the 22nd April, Chelmsford College celebrated by hosting its second Clean Energy Jobs and Careers Fair in collaboration with Essex County Council.

Dedicated to becoming more sustainable and committed to taking part in Planet Earth Games, the College used the Fair to raise awareness of the green skills and green careers available to local young people. As well as learners being timetabled to visit the Fair and scheduled to listen to inspiring speakers in different workshops, local schools also attended, ensuring young people across a range of ages had the chance to learn more about this important topic.

The Fair saw a variety of exhibitors host stalls and workshops across industries including, Anglia Ruskin University, Delta Housing, Colchester Zoo, Good People, JP’s Wild Honey, Quantum Group, Tropic, USP College and The Wilderness Foundation, to name but a few!

The Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jannetta Sosin and The Mayoress Christine Shaw, started the morning by planting two new trees in the College’s Secret Garden, which INSPIRE learners are currently refurbishing. Helping update the space further and support the College’s eco-friendly mission were the various exhibitors who helped plant a range of flowers and vegetables later in the afternoon.

The stalls all looked amazing with many bringing equipment that they demonstrated live. The Safer, Greener, Healthier initiative also had their own stall with a mini bike that learners enjoyed trying out. The workshops, such as one led by Indaver, were a great addition as it gave learners a deeper insight into the companies and how green careers essential in today’s evolving world.

With Planet Earth Games focusing on plastic pollution reduction and sustainable fashion, several Chelmsford College learners also hosted their own stalls. Fashion learners showcased their upcycled garments, while the INSPIRE team presented their eco-friendly projects. Business learners promoted the College’s own Renew Sustainable Shop on campus with a dedicated stall.

Overall, the Clean Energy Jobs and Careers Fair was a great success, providing an opportunity for staff, learners, schools and local businesses to come together for an important cause. As part of its commitment to becoming net-zero, Chelmsford College looks forward to continuing to raise the profile of clean energy in the future.

Sarah-Jane Easdown, CEIAG Manager at Chelmsford College and organiser of the event, commented on the buzzing atmosphere and shared how many exhibitors praised the learners for their engagement. She also thanked various staff members for their help and the catering team for delivering an amazing lunch spread that contributed to the success of the day.
