Developing and Celebrating Life Skills at Chelmsford College
Chelmsford College champions a “Ready, Respect, Safe” ethos which is all about reminding and teaching its learners the importance of being ready to learn, respectful to others and safe in decision making. As well as this being embedded in classroom teaching and activities, Chelmsford College started alternating weeks titled Ready Week, Respect Week and Safe Week at the beginning of the new term to help facilitate this message further.
The alternating weeks saw various employers and inspiring people visit the College to deliver guest talks or to man stalls and stands to speak firsthand with the learners of Chelmsford College.
The Wilderness Foundation and Essex Safer Roads Partnership are just some of the companies who set up in reception onsite. Offering important road safety information and eco-friendly tips, learners benefitted from the advice and fruitful discussions they had with the visitors.
HSBC and Gavin McKenna are examples of the brilliant guest talks delivered to various classes throughout the weeks. From HSBC sharing knowledge on borrowing money and managing debt to Gavin speaking on his inspiring journey, both visits helped celebrate the Ready, Respect, Safe initiative at Chelmsford College and develop learners’ life skills. Gavin spoke further on how he learned from past wrong decisions and now leads successful businesses and guides young people towards positive futures, which couldn’t be more apt for Safe Week.
On behalf of all at Chelmsford College, thank you to the various visitors we welcomed throughout these weeks. Your time is appreciated and your support helps us reinforce and focus on being ready to learn, respectful to others and safe when decision making.
