Inspiring the Next Generation of Construction Professionals at Chelmsford College

Chelmsford College is proud to play a role in the Building a Lasting Legacy initiative, an ambitious programme designed to inspire young people to explore careers in the construction industry. Partnering with Essex County Council, Morgan Sindall Construction, Greater Essex Careers Hub and Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford College has helped to create meaningful opportunities for secondary school learners to connect with employers and develop practical skills.

At the College’s recent event, students took part in interactive workshops and gained hands-on experience in various construction fields. These sessions not only showcased the wide range of roles within the sector but also encouraged learners to think about their own future career pathways.

The programme has already achieved significant recognition, being shortlisted for two national awards: Excellence in Construction Skills at the Essex Housing Awards, and Delivering Sustainability and Social Value at the CIPFA Public Finance Awards. These nominations reflect the impact of the initiative, which has engaged more than 100 Year 9 students in its first year alone.

Chelmsford College’s involvement goes far beyond the classroom. As a partner, the College is committed to supporting learners with ongoing skills development and careers guidance. By bringing together schools, employers and higher education partners, Chelmsford College is helping to ensure that the next generation has the confidence and experience to thrive in construction.
