Chelmsford College Boosts Spirits by Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week
The 12th-16th May 2025 marked Mental Health Awareness Week, a cause Chelmsford College feels passionately about. To help raise awareness, Chelmsford College had a full itinerary helping commemorate the week. Dedicated to ensuring good mental health for its learners and staff, the plans including a variety of external guests visiting to help spark enjoyment and discussion.
With activities planned for both campuses, the week saw visitors hosting stalls and displays within the reception areas. Moulsham Street campus welcomed Ellie Haldane on Monday who set up to raise awareness on sexual health and the importance of it. Essex Young Carers were at both sites on Wednesday speaking with the College community across lunch time. Thursday was a busy day with employees from Mind Charity, The OutHouse and The Wilderness Foundation, all visiting to promote their services. Mind Charity shared their mental health tips, advice and resources, as well as handing out free green ribbons to help further promote Wear it Green Thursday for Mental Health Awareness Week. Meanwhile, The OutHouse highlighted how they can help the LGBTQ+ community by providing safe and inclusive spaces and events. They even brought crafts along with them, including jewelry making, which learners enjoyed completing. The Wilderness Foundation discussed how they offer counselling and therapy programmes which help individuals reconnect to society and themselves through outdoor facilitation adventures and mentoring.
A particular highlight of the week was on Tuesday with a visit from singer Joel Foster. Joel starred on the first season of The Voice Kids UK in 2017 and since then, released his debut single Infected which gained over 20,000 streams within the first week. Performing a range of songs, Joel helped bring the community together for a wonderful cause. As someone who has had their own experiences with bullying and mental health, Joel also hosted an open discussion which left learners feeling inspired, joyful and motivated. You can watch some of Joel’s performance over on the College’s TikTok
Overall, the week was a success and worked as a reminder for all to take time for their mental health.
