Inspiring the Green Workforce of the Future at Chelmsford College

With Green Careers Week taking place from the 4th-8th November, Chelmsford College celebrated by hosting its very first Green Skills Fair on the 4th of November in collaboration with Essex County Council and The Careers and Enterprise Company.

Aiming to raise awareness of the green skills and green careers available out there, Chelmsford College learners were timetabled to visit the fair ensuring everyone had a chance to explore the different stalls and workshops. Welcoming a range of various companies who exhibited at the fair, the event proved successful with the next generations green workforce inspired.

The MP Marie Goldman, The Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Janette Potter and The Mayoress Jackie Galley all attended the fair and even helped several learners plant two new trees, helping the College with their sustainability mission.

Varying from the cosmetics company Lush to National Grid and many more, some companies held workshops and talks as well as manning a stand. This enhanced the experience for learners and really allowed them to delve deeper into what green skills are and how they’re essential in today’s modern world.

With exhibitors including Ryanair, Morgan Sindall Construction and Galloper Wind Farm among many others, the stands looked incredible with many bringing equipment used for live demonstrations. Tesla were even in attendance and brought along some of their cars, which learners found very enjoyable.

Uniting educational establishments, Chelmsford College was happy to welcome Harlow College, Colchester Institute, the University of Essex and ACL Essex too to help lead the way in sustainability.

Overall, the Green Skills Fair was a success and allowed an opportunity for staff, learners and different businesses to come together for an important cause. Dedicated to sustainable living, Chelmsford College looks forward to further raising the profile of green skills in the future.

Sarah-Jane Easdown, the CEIAG Manager at Chelmsford College, showed her thanks by saying "thank you to all who attended the Green Skills Fair today. Our efforts with Essex County Council and The Career and Enterprise Company have really paid off as learners were extremely engaged with the variety of stalls. The workshops were a great addition, and we even had some of business and enterprise learners showcase their own sustainable businesses. Thank you to all the staff who ensured the event ran smoothly, the atmosphere was amazing!"
