Hosting of the Apprenticeship Torch
National Apprentice Week runs from 14-18th of March and Chelmsford College was been given the honour of being the first organisation in East Anglia to host the Apprentice Torch when it came to Chelmsford on the 8th of March. The torch itself has taken its lead from the Olympic Torch, and has been engineered by apprentices at MOD Boscombe Down to symbolise the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next. They designed the conical shape to represent the expansion of knowledge, the bright LED light to symbolise enlightenment from learning, and red and orange LEDs represent the fire and spark provided by the apprentices themselves.
The Prime Minister, the first to ‘pass the torch’, is committed to 3 million apprenticeship starts by the year 2020. Good quality apprenticeships offer the opportunity for young people to earn while they learn and also to provide employers with skills they need for their business. At Chelmsford College we have always been keen to provide valuable work experience for all our students, regardless of it being an apprenticeship or not, so this is a very exciting time for us.
