VTCT Diploma in Women's Hairdressing, Level 3

Is this course for me?

This course aims to provide you with a range of specialist technical and practical skills and knowledge to enable you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing industry. This course has been designed to enhance your existing hairdressing skills to take them to a higher level. Within the course you will study advanced fashion techniques which will make your skills more desirable to employers. The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units; the creative art of cutting women’s hair, the artistic skill of colouring, imaginative dexterity of styling and dressing hair, and how to provide effective consultation support for colleagues. You will develop a sound knowledge of monitoring health and safety whilst working in the hairdressing industry. Overall, the purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to an advanced level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services as well as support others.

Study Overview

To ensure that upon completion, you have a sound understanding of the industry as a whole, you will complete a minimum of 30 hours work related experience and cover a variety of units.

Units studied include the following:

• Monitor and maintain health and safety practices in the salon
• Hairdressing consultation support for colleagues
• Colour hair to create a variety of looks
• Cut women's hair to create a variety of looks
• Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
• Promote and see products and services to clients
• Bridal hairstyling
• Hair colour correction
• Hairdressing consultation support

Progression and Employment Opportunities

Progression to further study could include a Level 4 course in management or a Level 4 Trichology. 

Career opportunities may include employment as a Senior Stylist.

Additional Qualifications Studied

You will continue to study a maths and English qualification if you have not achieved a Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2. 

We collaborate with a range of stakeholders to enhance our Hair & Beauty courses based on industry feedback. As a result, we have incorporated the Level 2 Skin Cancer Awareness qualification to better prepare learners for their careers.
