Is this course for me?

Obtaining the Level 1 qualification in electrical installation is an excellent way to start a career in the electrical industry. This qualification is designed to provide learners with a strong foundation in electrical installation, including knowledge of electrical principles and practical skills like wiring, cabling, and installation of electrical systems. One of the benefits of this qualification is that it allows you to progress to more advanced qualifications, such as Level 2 and beyond, which are necessary for those who want to become professional electricians. The Level 1 qualification serves as a stepping stone towards more advanced electrical qualifications and is a prerequisite for further study in this field.

The qualification gives the learner an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the basic installation of cables and wiring systems. The qualification does not make the individual an electrician but allows progression to further study.

Study Overview

The course involves both practice and theory work to ensure you gain the necessary skills upon completion. It is divided as such: 

• 30% of the course involves practical tasks in the workshop, building hand skills, basic requirements and good practices for electrical installations.
• 70% of the course is theory of safe working and health and safety, electrical installation practices and knowledge of tools and equipment.

Progression and Employment Opportunities

Following successful completion of this course and achievement of grades 9-4 in GCSE English and maths or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths, progression to further study may include:

• Full time Level 2 Electrical Installation.
• Apprenticeship in Electrotechnical Systems in installation or maintenance.

Additional Qualifications Studied

You will study Life Skills and continue to study a maths and English qualification if you have not achieved a Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.
