Extended Technical Occupational Entry for Carpenters and Joiners (Diploma), Level 2
Is this course for me?
This Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery course is designed to advance your knowledge and skills to a semi-skilled level, ready for employment and NVQ assessment in the workplace. Once enrolled on this course, you will develop your workshops practical skills. These will be supported by detailed underpinning knowledge, which will help you to understand the theoretical concepts behind each skill you acquire.
Study Overview
To ensure you’re equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to progress, this course is made up of a range of units that cover the fundamentals of bricklaying. Mandatory units include:
- Construction health and safety
- Construction, information, quantities and communications
- Employment in the construction industry
- Personal skills in the construction industry
- Personal wellbeing in construction
- Environmental awareness and sustainability in construction
- First fix carpentry operations
- Second fix carpentry operations
- Construction principles
- Undertaking structural carcassing operations
- Preparing and using carpentry and joinery portable power tools
Progression and Employment Opportunities
Career opportunities include employment in the construction industry or an apprenticeship.
Additional Qualifications Studied
All learners will also complete a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment to allow you to access a CSCS card, which you will need to be able to go on site.
We collaborate with stakeholders, including CITB and Quantum, to enhance our construction programmes based on their feedback. This has led to the addition of the CSCS/H&S certificate, L1 Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Award, and Understanding Domestic Retrofit Award to align with industry needs.
You will study Life Skills and continue to study a maths and English qualification if you have not achieved a Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.
