In this bricklaying course, you will gain a solid foundation in the basics of bricklaying, including the handling of materials, tools, and equipment. This is a 1-year introduction to the construction industry, featuring essential core units such as, health and safety, construction industry and construction principles and then specialist brickwork units to give you the skills to complete the job.
Please note that this course is an introduction only, and progression is essential to gain semi-skilled and skilled status.
Study Overview
This Diploma in Bricklaying is designed to help you gain a comprehensive understanding of bricklaying by covering a range of topics and units. These units will equip you with the necessary skills that employers look for when hiring individuals in this industry. The units studied are:
- Health and safety in construction
- The construction industry
- Environmental awareness and sustainability in construction
- Handle, move and store resources
- Erect and dismantle access equipment or working platforms
- Personal wellbeing in construction
- Construction principles
- Skills for bricklaying
- Further skills for bricklaying
Progression and Employment Opportunities
Upon completion of this course, you could progress on to the
- Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying full-time
Career opportunities may include employment in the construction industry, or you could undertake an apprenticeship in Bricklaying.
Additional Qualifications Studied
All Level 1 learners will also complete a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment to allow you to access a CSCS card which you will need to be able to go on site.
We collaborate with stakeholders, including CITB and Quantum, to enhance our construction programmes based on their feedback. (This has led to the addition of the CSCS/H&S certificate, E3 Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Award, and Understanding Domestic Retrofit Award to align with industry needs)
You will study Life Skills and continue to study a maths and English qualification if you have not achieved a Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.
