National Extended Diploma in Physical Activity & Sport (SES), Level 3
Is this course for me?
Sport and Exercise Science examines sports performance from a number of different perspectives. This sports Diploma will provide a strong scientific grounding in the area allowing you to have an in-depth understanding of the industry. You will investigate the principles of human performance in terms of anatomy, physiology, psychology, biomechanics, injury, and nutrition.
Study Overview
Learners will develop employability skills in areas such as sports coaching, fitness training and sports massage. Alongside these, learners will explore and apply the concepts of research and consider how sport interacts with wider society. These themes are delivered across 2 years within 13 units of theoretical and practical study.
Successful completion of this course will give the learner UCAS points equivalent to 3 A Levels.
*This course also offers the opportunity to take part in our football academy in conjunction with Billericay Town FC.
Progression and Employment Opportunities
A significant proportion of learners use the qualification to gain access to higher education, either furthering their study of Exercise Science, one of the components, e.g. sports psychology or a related field like sports therapy or physical education teaching.
Learners wishing to pursue a career in areas such as fitness and coaching can look to enter these sectors by completing Governing Body qualifications or commencing a relevant apprenticeship scheme.
Common employment routes include professions such as teaching, fitness, coaching, sports injuries, sports centre management and sports development. Other learners have followed careers in associated fields, such as the armed forces or public services.
Additional Qualifications Studied
We work closely with stakeholders, including CIMSPA and Billericay Town Football Club, to improve our sport programmes based on their feedback. As a result, we've added CIMSPA-accredited CPD modules to align with industry needs, along with a paediatric first aid qualification.
