VTCT Diploma in Women's Hairdressing, Level 2

Is this course for me?

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is aimed at learners who are looking to start a career in the hairdressing industry. Learners will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks. Specific skills you can expect to develop include the creative art of cutting or dressing women’s hair, how to provide effective shampooing and conditioning services, the artistic skill of colouring and lightening hair and how to provide a good consultation service for your clients.

You will develop a sound understanding of each unit, including health and safety and what it is like to work in the hairdressing industry. Overall, the purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform a range of salon services.

Study Overview

This course includes a minimum of 30 hours work related experience and covers a variety of units to ensure that upon completion, you have the necessary skills and understanding to advance to where you want to.

Mandatory units include:

• Advising and consulting with clients 
• Blow-dry and style hair 
• Colour and lighten hair 
• Cutting hair using hairdressing techniques 
• Art of dressing hair 
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp 
• Style hair with electrical equipment 
• Reception 
• Working in the hair industry 
• Provide scalp massage

Upon successful completion of this Diploma, you can progress with further study onto a Level 3 programme or by starting your career journey. Job opportunities may include positions in the following:

• Commercial salons
• Self-employed/mobile
• Work abroad 
• Cruise liners
• Hospitals/care homes

Additional Qualifications Studied

You will study Life Skills and also continue to study maths and English qualification alongside your vocational course if you have not already achieved a Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.
