VTCT Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 1

Is this course for me?

If the hairdressing industry is one you'd like to pursue but you're wondering how to enter the workforce, this course is for you. The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing is to prepare you to progress to the next level of vocational learning. All the units within this qualification directly relate to the hairdressing industry. With further progression as well as the skills and qualification gained on this course, in time you will be able to work as a fully qualified Hairdresser either for a business or self-employed.

Study Overview

This Level 1 Hairdressing course covers a variety of elements and topics to ensure that upon completion, learners are confident with their knowledge and skills to progress to their next steps. If enrolled on this programme, units you can expect to study include the following:

• Health and safety in the salon
• Introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector
• Shampoo and conditioning
• Colour hair using temporary colour
• Styling women's hair
• The art of dressing hair
• Salon reception duties
• Promote products and services to clients in the salon
• Plaiting and twisting hair
• Styling men's hair 
• Creating an image

Please note that learners are expected to work on each other initially to gain practical experience before they work on paying clients in The Princes Salons. Learners will also complete a minimum of 30 hours work related experience. 

Progression and Employment Opportunities

Progression to further study could include the Level 2 qualification in hairdressing or beauty therapy. 

Additional Qualifications Studied

You will study Life Skills and also continue to study maths and English qualification if you have not already achieved a Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.
