Sharp UK Awards Top Prizes to Chelmsford College Learners for AI Competition
The 4th of June 2026 marked a very exciting day for three Chelmsford College IT learners, Daniel, Tyler and Angeline, as they competed in the annual Sharp Competition, held at Sharp UK’s new London office.
Ahead of the event, the learners were tasked with developing and presenting an agentic AI idea or application. After researching, planning and developing their ideas, they arrived ready to showcase their solutions. As always, Sharp gave the College a warm welcome before opening the day with a talk on the evolution of AI and its growing role across today’s digital world.
Angeline presented first and joined remotely to introduce her great idea SkillSync which surrounded an agentic AI solution that helps students through upskilling, taking quizzes and assessing their strengths/weaknesses. The team then broke for a delicious lunch kindly provided complimentary by Sharp and they had a chance to look around their exciting new office more in depth. Daniel, who is one of Chelmsford College’s Student Governors, then presented his agentic AI idea College Buddy which was also designed for the education sector. Daniel’s focused on helping learners manage deadlines and tasks through a single streamlined platform. Last but certainly not least was Tyler who presented his idea of a front of house assistant, which helps relieve the busy workload of hospitality staff and ensures a smooth customer experience for customers. After presenting each of their ideas, each learner had to demo their live application and answer any questions from the judging panel in a Q&A feedback session.
Concluding the day meant the Sharp judges had the very difficult decision of deciding the winners. With both Sharp and Chelmsford College staff equally impressed and proud of the professionalism and talent they saw across all three learners, they awarded Daniel first place with an Apple MacBook, Tyler second place with a £150 Amazon voucher and Angeline third place with a £100 Amazon voucher.
The competition continues to be a highlight for both organisations, offering valuable industry insight, real world experience and tangible rewards. Simon Warnes, Director of Corporate, AV, Bids and Partnerships at Sharp UK, said: "What a great day we had in London with Chelmsford College and their learners. The presentations were superb and the quality of the ideas were fantastic. Well done to the three finalists!"
