Chelmsford College Tutor Invited to Buckingham Palace for DofE 70th Anniversary Celebration.
Chelmsford College is proud to celebrate the achievements of Laura Eastwood, Lead Life Skills Tutor, who was honoured with an invitation to the Duke of Edinburgh’s 70 year celebration and Gold Award event at Buckingham Palace Gardens on Friday the 22nd May.
The event marked seven decades of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, recognising the impact the programme has had on young people across the UK. Laura attended alongside representatives from schools and colleges nationwide who have supported learners through their DofE journeys.
Guests were welcomed into the Palace Gardens for an afternoon of celebration and reflection. The highlight of the day was a speech delivered by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, who spoke about the legacy of the Award and the importance of continuing to provide opportunities for young people to challenge themselves and grow. Additional speeches were given by other well-known guests including The One Show presenter, Alex Jones, and actor Hugh Bonneville, who shared their own reflections on the value of the DofE programme.
Laura described the experience as "an honour", noting how inspiring it was to meet staff from other schools and colleges who are equally passionate about supporting young people. The event also included tea, refreshments and beautifully decorated cupcakes; a detail she said definitely added to the celebratory atmosphere.
Chelmsford College is incredibly proud of Laura’s dedication to enrichment for learners. Her invitation to Buckingham Palace highlights her commitment and the College’s ongoing support for opportunities that help young people develop confidence, resilience and life skills.
