Chelmsford College Receives Highly Commended Award at the Green Gown Awards 2024!
All thanks to an in-house designed and developed app, Nexus, Chelmsford College has been recognised with a Highly Commended Award at the Green Gown Awards UK and Ireland 2024! With Mark Emerson, Assistant Principal – Information and Digital Transformation, and Rachel Harrington, MIS Manager, at Chelmsford College in attendance at the prestigious ceremony, the event turned out to be a great night. Taking place at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, the Green Gown Awards have been awarding prominent sustainable initiatives undertaken by universities and colleges across the world since 2004.
From a shortlist of 133 finalists, Chelmsford College was impressively one of 23 to receive a Highly Commended Award. This well-deserved recognition is owed to Nexus, the College’s exclusive app that promotes sustainability by encouraging learners and staff to complete sustainable pledges. Each eco-friendly task completed earns the user badges which can be exchanged for tangible rewards, ultimately motivating them to continue their eco-journey. An example of this includes a bricklaying class’s visit to Ninja Warrior UK; they earned themself this trip for being the tutor group with the most Nexus points.
The judges at the Green Gown Awards were especially impressed with the College’s green efforts commenting on the “innovative approach” and how it "felt fresh and exciting". Proud of the acknowledgement and grateful for the system teams work, David Warnes, the Principal and CEO at Chelmsford College said the "recognition strengthens the resolve of the whole college community to integrate sustainable practice into every aspect of college life".
Overall, Chelmsford College is excited for the future of Nexus and the awards have encouraged an even further determination to promote sustainability.
