Highlighting the Importance of Voting with Candidate Visits

Ahead of the general election, Chelmsford College opened its doors to local election candidates. With the aim of reinforcing the importance of voting, Vicky Ford representing the Conservatives, Marie Goldman from the Liberal Democrats, Mark Kenlen from the Workers Party, and Richard Parry from the Labour Party (as pictured below) all visited throughout the weeks leading up to the election.

In preparation, Chelmsford College’s student body collected a range of questions from learners regarding the parties, candidates, and overall election. With that, the College’s Learner Voice representatives met with the election candidates to have their questions answered and help them become more informed. The candidates also kindly made impromptu visits to classrooms to speak with a range of learners.

Chelmsford College thanks the candidates for their visits which helped to enrich the life skills of learners and remind them about the significance of exercising their right to vote. Alice King, the Life Skills and Enrichment Manager at Chelmsford College, expresses "I have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming local election candidates into Chelmsford College over the last few weeks to speak with staff and learners. It has been such a great opportunity for all involved, so a big thank you to all of the candidates for your time."
