Chelmsford College Learner, Tyler Blakeney, shortlisted for Inspirational Young Person Award!
A big congratulations to Chelmsford College’s Health & Social Care learner, Tyler Blakeney who recently was shortlisted for a Chelmsford For You Community Award! Tyler came runner-up for his inspiring volunteer work with the YMCA, well done!
"Tyler is a young volunteer at the YMCA and is dedicated to helping in the youth and holiday clubs. He became a great role model to the younger ones he worked with in the holiday club settings. He achieved this by aiding those with behavioural needs in conversation and sport-related games when the children seemed as though they were struggling - which goes far beyond what’s expected from a young volunteer. He relayed to the YMCA this was a simple matter for him, as he himself has Asperger's - he understands what it can be like for other neurodivergent individuals and can then figure out the way he can support them best."
"Tyler has become essential to the youth clubs, as he is always lending a helping hand to members of staff, and engaging the fellow young people who attend. He invited his own friends along and spread the word about the youth clubs of YMCA, which has led to us creating a lovely little community where they all feel safe and comfortable. "Tyler is a young carer himself, yet at our young carers club he still chooses to help us set up, then clean up and pack away, every session."
