Is this course for me?

The course is designed to provide access to learners who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding and knowledge of the engineering industry. With a focus on concepts and practical applications, learners will have the opportunity to explore the fundamental principles of engineering, including environmental awareness, different techniques and problem-solving. By the end of the course, learners should have a comprehensive understanding of the key concepts and principles of engineering, as well as the skills necessary to apply this knowledge in real-world situations.

Study Overview

This course consists of 3 externally examined units which are mandatory:

• Unit 1 - Engineering environment awareness 
• Unit 2 - Engineering techniques 
• Unit 3 - Engineering maths and science principles 

Plus 3 additional units:

• Unit 6 - Electrical and electronic systems and devices
• Unit 17 -Fitting and assembly techniques 
• Unit 18 - Manual turning techniques 

Progression and Employment Opportunities

Progression to further study could include the level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering or an apprenticeship such as the level 2 Engineering Operative standard or level 3 Engineering technician standard.

Career opportunities may include positions such as an engineering technician, engineering operative, production worker, or mechanical fitter.
