Is this course for me?

Do you want to work in film and online streaming industries? With this course, you could become a director, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor or sound designer. You will explore the creative and technical aspects of film and online video production and gain the necessary skills to develop and produce short films and web-series episodes, music videos and corporate and promotional pieces for business clients.

This course is structured to develop your professional industry skills, so we work closely with industry partners to ensure the course content remains relevant and you get the skills universities, apprenticeships, and employers need. You will develop further professional and transferable skills with opportunities to work with clients, plan and organise productions, pitch ideas to industry professionals and network within the independent film and online-streaming industry.

Study Overview

You will develop a range of production skills using industry-standard equipment and software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Speed Grade, and Audition. You will explore and develop an understanding of a range of different production roles through pre-production, principle photography and post-production with the opportunity to explore your desired specialism further through set-specific projects. You will learn about different forms of story development through short films and web serials, as well as producing film and video content for a range of different client types. We will cover production techniques including directing actors, cinematic camera techniques, lighting, recording audio, industry-standard editing techniques and incorporating VFX.

Using professional techniques through lectures, tutorials, seminars, and industry workshops, you will develop a portfolio of industry-standard work that will support you in the next step of your career or education journey.

A series of guest speakers are included as part of the programme. You will also benefit from several field trips, our previous trips have included:

Progression and Employment Opportunities

Students will develop transferrable skills, making them versatile and employable individuals. As the qualification has been designed to attract UCAS tariff points and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting university admission requirements, students completing this course usually go on to further study in degree-related programmes at university or in employment.
