Is this course for me?
This online course is most suited for learners aged 19 and older who have always been interested in becoming a nurse but faced obstacles along the way. It is also appropriate for mature students considering nursing as a new career path. While your initial goal may be a general nursing career, the modules you explore may inspire an interest in other nursing specialities.
The course is delivered remotely, through independent, study allowing you to learn at your own pace and from the comfort of your own home. You will engage in self-directed learning through an online platform with the support of a progress tutor. To participate, you will need a computer and internet access to access course materials and complete assessments. Additionally, you will receive guidance on university applications and essential study skills to help you succeed and progress towards a nursing degree.
Study Overview
Throughout the course, you will focus on developing study skills essential for university. These skills will be applied across various modules, which include topics like the history of the NHS, the roles and responsibilities of nurses, and body systems. All modules are assessed through coursework, which you will submit via the online learning platform.
Progression and Employment Opportunities
Upon completing the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing), you will be eligible to apply for a nursing degree programme. A nursing degree opens up various career paths, including paediatric, neonatal, emergency care, mental health, special educational needs, community or practice nursing, and specialized nursing roles. Please note that this list is not exhaustive, and entry requirements may vary between universities.
If you wish to progress to a midwifery degree and some nursing degrees, you will need a GCSE in Science grade 4-9 (A-C). Some degree courses will require 5 or 6 GCSE grade 4-9 (A-C) including English Language, Maths and Science. You are advised to check university entry requirements carefully.
