This course is designed for individuals who are fascinated by the intricacies of forensic evidence. If you have a passion for understanding the scientific and psychological aspects of crime, such as how forensic evidence is gathered, processed, and analysed, as well as into the psychology of those who commit crimes, then this course could be for you. You will learn through activities based in our crime scene rooms, the laboratory, and the classroom, where a number of our activities are scenario-based. Overall, this Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation will provide you with a good understanding of the industry from various angles.

Study Overview

This 2-year full-time course is equivalent to 3 A levels. If you are interested in forensic studies, criminology, and psychology, then this course will give you an insight into those areas. The course includes studying core biology, chemistry, physics and science investigation skills to underpin scientific knowledge before specialising in forensic analysis and investigation.

Units may include forensic archaeology, anthropology, forensic genetics, forensic fire investigation, and traffic accident investigation. You will also study criminal psychology and criminology as core elements of the course.

Skills in a scientific subject are transferable and highly sought after by employers. Upon successful completion, depending on your goals for what is next, you may progress to higher education, employment, including in digital forensic investigation or to a degree apprenticeship.

Many learners progress to university, and this course is suitable for further studies in criminology, psychology, forensic investigation, forensic science, and policing studies. Learners may also apply for Border Force, Police and Armed Services.
