Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, Level 3
Is this course for me?
The National Extended Diploma is a 2-year, full-time course ideal for anyone who wants to progress to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment. It can also support learners who want to progress directly to employment. The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
The aims of the course are to learn how to:
- Set up a supply chain.
- Learn how to communicate with customers.
- Opportunity to work closely with a business.
- Gain experience dealing with real business issues.
- Give learners the opportunity to plan, set up and run their own business through a structured programme of learning.
Study Overview
The course requires students to set up and run their own business. Assessment will be through both practical and written tasks. An office area will be provided for students and business dress is to be worn.
Mandatory units:
There are eight mandatory units, eight internally assessed and four externally assessed. Learners must complete and achieve at Pass grade or above for all units.
Year 1
- Unit 1 Enterprise and Entrepreneurs
- Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign
- Unit 3 Business and Personal Finance
- Unit 4 Launch and Run an Enterprise
- Unit 8 Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship in Practice
- Unit 9 Innovation and Enterprises
Units 2 and 3 are externally assessed in Year 1
Year 2
- Unit 5 Survival and Growth
- Unit 6 Business Decision Making
- Unit 10 Recruitment and Selection Processes
- Unit 11 Marketing Communications (units are subject to change)
- Unit 12 Principles of Management
- Unit 13 Developing an Enterprise Strategy
Units 6 and 12 are externally assessed in Year 2
We also collaborate with stakeholders, including Chelmsford City Council, to increase opportunities for learners to develop their entrepreneurial skills, such as through a Youth Innovation Event.
Progression and Employment Opportunities
- University or HND course.
- Higher Apprenticeship/Degree Apprenticeship.
- Employment in a variety of different business careers.
- Successful students may go on to set up their own businesses, armed with the skills and experience gained on the course.
