Do you want to create exciting worlds full of amazing stories and characters? If so, this course is for you. Animation and illustration are two constantly developing and exciting areas of the creative industries, with animators and illustrators employed to create characters, animations, and visuals for television, social media, advertising, games, concept design, and many other areas.

We will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and experience required to become successful in an exciting creative industry environment that is currently undergoing significant changes. You will engage with our experienced lecturers, who come from a wide range of commercial and professional disciplines, to increase your technical ability, expand your understanding of the animation pipeline, and prepare you for a career in animated film, comic books, concept art, motion graphics, and game design. You will gain a broad skill set which will effectively prepare you for successful progression to the career of your choice.

Study Overview

The animation and illustration course includes stimulating and exciting modules, covering all types of animation from 2D, 3D, stop motion and production techniques. We focus on building your essential knowledge and skills in animation, meeting the demands for a diverse range of realistic commercial scenarios across a range of platforms and contexts. Core skills are supported through a critical and theoretical understanding of how the industry operates in order to ensure that employability is at the heart of the programmes outcomes.

Animation has continued to change dramatically; no longer is animation solely Hollywood's monopoly as smaller and more independent companies from a wider field (i.e. Europe, Africa and Mexico) now perform admirably. This is due to the availability of animation software at affordable prices and the ease of sharing content digitally.

You will have the opportunity to build your portfolio through live industry briefs and a series of guest speakers are included as part of the programme.

You will also have the opportunity to benefit from several field trips; our previous trips have included the following:

• Residential trip to Los Angeles/New York (not included in the fees)
• VFX festival in London
• London VFX studio visit
• Science and Natural History Museum
• Colchester Zoo
