Is this course for me?

This qualification allows you to acquire the knowledge and craft skills of electrical installation. It does not require occupational evidence from the workplace, so is suitable if you do not currently work within the electrical industry but who may wish to do so. The qualification will give you an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation of wiring systems together with the relevant theory of electrical installation. You will become familiar with the IET On-Site Guide and gain knowledge of electrical science and principles, to gain understanding of electrical circuits. This qualification does not make you an electrician but allows progression to further study.

Study Overview

This qualification may be of interest if you currently do not work within the electrical Industry but wish to do so. It will give you an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation of wiring systems together with the relevant theory of electrical installation. 

What does this qualification cover?

This Diploma covers health and safety, electrical installation theory, technology, electrical installation methods, procedures and requirements, and electrical science and principles. Overall, this Electrical Installation Diploma covers a variety of topics to ensure that upon completion, you have a comprehensive understanding of the industry you wish to pursue. 

This course is comprised of practical and theoretical elements to ensure upon completion, you have the necessary skills, understanding, and knowledge to progress to where you wish.

  • 30% of the course involves practical tasks in the workshop, building hand skills, basic requirements, and good practices for electrical installations.
  • 70% of the course is theory on the safe working and health and safety, electrical installation practices, and knowledge of tools and equipment.

Progression and Employment Opportunities

The qualification will not make you an electrician, but upon successful completion will allow progression to Level 3. To be recognised as a qualified, competent electrician you will need to complete the level 3 NVQ qualification, for which you need to be employed, in a relevant role within the industry.
