BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science
Sport and Exercise Science examines sports performance from a number of different perspectives. There is a strong scientific grounding investigating the principles of human performance in terms of anatomy, physiology, psychology, biomechanics, injury and nutrition. Learners will also develop employability skills in areas such as sports coaching, fitness training and sports massage. Alongside these, learners will explore and apply the concepts of research and consider how sport interacts with wider society. These themes are delivered across 2 years within 13 units of theoretical and practical study.
Successful completion of this course will give the learner UCAS points equivalent to 3 A Levels.
The course offers the opportunity to take part in our football academy in conjunction with Billericay Town FC.
Progression and Employment Opportunities
Learners wishing to pursue a career in areas such as fitness and coaching can look to enter these sectors by completing Governing Body qualifications or commencing a relevant apprenticeship scheme.
A significant proportion of learners use the qualification to gain access to higher education, either furthering their study of Exercise Science, one of the components, e.g. sports psychology or a related field like sports therapy or physical education teaching.
Common employment routes include professions such as teaching, fitness, coaching, sports injuries, sports centre management and sports development. Other learners have followed careers in associated fields, such as the armed forces or public services.
Additional Qualifications Studied
Maths and English – Take it Seriously!
At Chelmsford College we are dedicated to helping all our learners achieve their ambitions and we acknowledge that in order to do well, some of our learners may need extra support in maths and/or English. Please note that individual Level 2 literacy and numeracy may not be equivalent to a full GCSE qualification.
We provide specialist teaching as a compulsory part of the study programme for all learners who have not achieved a grade 4 at GCSE in these subjects and we all take maths and English seriously.
