BTEC Level 1/2 Diploma in Sport

Is this course for me?

Focusing on the student applying sport in both theoretical and practical environments, you will be learning about human performance in sport and how it is provided by various agencies in the UK. This course aims to motivate students to consider a career in the sports sector with progression opportunities into a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or potential employment into the sports industry. 


Study Overview

This course gives learners the opportunity to gain a wide range of industry based knowledge and skills. This requires the application of sporting knowledge in both practical and theoretical environments. Learners will explore the various branches of human performance, the fitness industry and how sport is provided by the various agencies in the UK; whilst having the opportunity to gain work experience within the sports industry.

There are a wide range of enrichment activities linked to the course in and around the local community to provide further experience and opportunities to develop both your sports leadership and employability skills.

Employment & Labour Market Opportunities

Learners can progress onto a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, an apprenticeship or potential employment in the sports sector including coaching positions (supported by National Governing Body qualifications), Fitness Industry and Sport and Recreation Leisure Centres.

Maths and English – Take it Seriously!

At Chelmsford College we are dedicated to helping all our learners achieve their ambitions and we acknowledge that in order to do well, some of our learners may need extra support in maths and/or English. Please note that individual Level 2 literacy and numeracy may not be equivalent to a full GCSE qualification.

We provide specialist teaching as a compulsory part of the study programme for all learners who have not achieved a grade C at GCSE in these subjects and we all take maths and English seriously.

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 2 GCSEs grade 9-3 (or equivalent grade) or successful achievement at a Level 1 vocational course.

Method of Assessment

Learners are assessed throughout the course through a variety of activities including assignment work, presentations, externally assessed exams and practical activities.
